At Pacific Pups we pride ourselves on complete transparency with our clients, and to ensure this we'd like to share the Protocols and Procedures

GROUP WALKS

Group Walks provides the perfect opportunity for your dog to burn off those extra beans, and learn vital socializing skills in a fun, safe and positive environment

We are accredited and qualified, having taken courses and gaining recognized qualifications in Canine Social Behavior, Dog Walking and Pet First Aid.

Every member of the "pack" is carefully chosen to ensure a well balanced group dynamic and our set schedules ensure that your pups get to know every member of the team, partying with the same furiends every week.  During a "group walk" we adventure into the mountains and forests of Squamish for a minimum of an hour and a half hike.

Our trails have been carefully chosen and vetted prior to any Pacific Pups Adventure, to asses all factors, ensuring they are appropriate for our pups. On a Pacific Pups hike your dog will get the opportunity to run through forests, paddle in streams and play with their furiends. Once each dogs has been assessed, our aim is that all dogs (unless specified) get to explore off-leash after following our strict set of protocols and procedures.

MEET AND GREET

During a Meet & Greet, you and your pet will get the opportunity to meet their walker.

A Meet & Greet can be conducted in your home, or a place that your pet is comfortable in, such as their favourite park. You and your walker will be able to discuss your pet's specific needs, any questions you may have, and how we can provide the best experience for both you and your pup.

This meeting will give your pet and their walker the opportunity to get acquainted for the first time, while they have the reassurance of their family present. We can introduce your dog/s to the "Woof Wagon" prior to their first adventure, so ensuring they are comfortable and familiar at Pick-up. It also gives us the opportunity to discuss your answers on your application form, to ensure we have all of the information required.

Following a Meet & Greet, if we have any further questions, we will reach out prior to your pet's first adventure and if your pet is shy, we can arrange another short introduction after their initial Meet and Greet.

PET CHECK-IN

Prior to any Pet Check- In we will discuss you and your pet's specific needs and expectations.

This is a 45 minute service, tailored to both the needs of the owner and pet.

All Pet Check-Ins are subject to availability and conducted Monday- Friday between 4:30 and 7:30.

We offer Pet Check-Ins for all animals (excluding exotic pets and birds), so whether you are working late and your pup needs feeding, your cat needs looking after, your fish need monitoring (water changes are an extra charge) or your hamster needs to be fed and cleaned, we have you covered.

TRAVEL IN THE DOG MOBILE

The welfare of the pups is paramount, and many measure have been put in place to ensure your dog/s travel to and from their adventures safely. We have a specifically modified vehicle that has two designated separate areas for the pups who require a little more space, or who can get easily over stimulated. All pups are attached by their harness to a tether, ensuring safety and comfort at all times.

The "Pup Truck"

Our modified 2023 Chevrolet Silverado has been converted with the dogs comfort and safety as a priority. Its' 4X4 capabilities means we are able to adventure further afield and access quieter areas to ensure we avoid other trail users, thus enabling us to be able to manage our variables, providing a calm and relaxing environment for our pups.

The "Pup Truck" is equipped with all the tools we need for every dog and we carry emergency packs, a full First Aid kit, and extra water and food.

To accommodate the change in seasons, the "Pup Truck" is fitted with winter or summer specific equipment, tires, shovels, chains, and venting to cover all situations and weather conditions.

YOUR DOGS SAFTEY IS PARAMOUNT

"EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED"

Pacific Pups prides ourselves on complete transparency with our clients and to ensure this we'd like to share the Protocols and Procedures that we have in place for when surprises happen.

PROTOCOLS & PROCEDURES

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!

Ensuring safety is our prime objective as dog walkers.

We guarantee a "Meet and Greet" appointment prior to every new dog joining our groups. This not only enables your dog/s to become acquainted with their walker, but allows both the walker and owner to establish the best approach for your dog's hikes.

New dogs will be on leash or "long line" leash for their first walk and until we are satisfied your dog has total recall.

Following your dog's first walk, we gradually progress from on leash to a long line, to a drag line and then eventually off leash while we continuous practice recall and desired behavior's. We reinforce desired behaviours with the use of positive training techniques, such as cookies or cuddles, whichever works best for your dog.

We understand that some dogs can become overstimulated in certain situations but that they still deserve and require socialization in a safe and positive environment. Dogs who have prior incidents of re-directing towards another, will be required to wear a muzzle with the owner's consent. To ensure that your dog remains happy and content on their walk, we will require the dog to have been trained appropriately by the owner on wearing a muzzle first. Dogs wear muzzles for many reason and we believe that there are no "bad dogs" and we don't hold any preconceived ideas about a dog who wears a muzzle.

We keep our groups small, and to a maximum of 7 dogs on "Pack Walks". Additionally each group is constructed depending on the member's traits, play styles and personalities, ensuring the best group dynamic possible for the benefit of every dog.

We believe that there are no bad dogs, but that some do require a little more help adjusting to group activities. That is why together we discuss prior to your dog's first walk, their traits, triggers and quirks. We also encourage open conversation about your dog's development and will give regular feed back on your dogs experiences with Pacific Pups.

GOT AN OUCHY!

Injuries happen for many reasons, whether that be a limp from jumping a log, an ouchy from a thorn or an disagreement with a furiend. All of these things are a probability on any wild adventure, but if your dog is injured while they are in the care of Pacific Pups we have the knowledge and experience on the best way to treat these surprise situations.

We are Canine First Aid certified and carry a Pet Specific emergency kit with us on every hike.  If your dog does get a minor abrasion or cut, our staff will clean and treat the injured area, ensuring it is sterile before contacting the owner with full details.

If, in the very unlikely event your dog requires medical attention, the owner will be contacted immediately and the walker will follow the owner's desired directions. If the owner and emergency contact are un-reachable, then the staff member will arrange for your dog to be seen at the nearest vet.

After any surprise situation, a full report and explanation will be provided to ensure complete transparency.

PACK SEPARATION!

In the unlikely event that your dog should become separated from the group, we have a set of Protocols and Procedures to ensure they are safely and quickly reunited.

Our GPS trackers are equipped with a "LIVE" mode that allow us to pin point your dogs location.

Additionally we have created specific steps to follow in the event of a separation, that plan for every eventuality.

If a dog becomes separated from the group for any reason we will immediately refer to the tracker and assess the situation, considering whether to remain where we are or proceed following the dog.

Owners are contacted immediately and given a detailed location of where their dog is heading, and be asked to meet the walker there as soon as possible.

We believe it is better that you are made aware of the evolving situation, even if your pup is reunited with the group shortly after. We prefer to have acted prematurely than allow precious time to have been wasted.

Following any pack separation situation, the dog will remain on leash, long-line and then "drag" until the walker is satisfied the dog is no longer a flight risk. The walker will revert to the same Protocols we have in place for "NEW" pack members.

A full report will be given by the walker after any "pack separation" and future preventative measures discussed.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS!

At Pacific Pups we plan for every eventuality and a "local" emergency is one of them.

In the event of an emergency evacuation, all dogs in our possession will remain in our care. No attempt will be made to return them home. Instead ALL dogs will accompany their walker as they follow the instructions of the emergency services.

Once our walker and the pups are at a designated safe location, all attempts will be made to contact you, their owner. If we are not able to reach you, your "local" emergency contact will be contacted. If due to the situation your "local" contact is unreachable, your "out of town" contact will be made aware of the situation and collection of your pet to their care will be arranged.

We will not allow your pet to be handed over to an unauthorized individual or unsafe location, and all efforts will be made to keep your pet safe to the best of our abilities.

Additionally our company "pup truck" is equipped with an "evac bag" containing extra food and water for all the dogs.
